Random packing is a filter material used in distillation and dispersion columns to increase the surface area of vapor and liquid in contact, thereby enhancing the efficiency of chemical separation. It enhances separation efficiency, reduces energy consumption, and reduces equipment pressure drop. Chemical separations include distillation absorption and Stripping.

• Distillation: Where liquid mixtures are separated into their components based on different boiling points.
• Absorption: In which certain components are extracted from a gas by dissolving them into a liquid.
• Stripping: Used to remove volatile compounds from a liquid.

There there are two main types that our company provides: pall ring and intalox. Here we mainly introduce the pall ring.

Pall rings are a type of packing tower. They are one of the most basic and widespread types of packing. A versatile and economical choice, pall rings are an improvement on previous methods of packing. The interior and exterior surfaces of pall rings increase the ring's capacity while minimizing the space it uses inside the tower. This design effectively distributes liquids and gases to improve efficiency.

Application areas

In most chemical separation (aka mass transfer) processes, vapor is driven upward in the column by heat and pressure while liquid falls downward in the column under the force of gravity. 

The larger the random packing, the higher the capacity, but at a cost of lower efficiency. The smaller the packing, the higher the efficiency but at a cost of lower capacity and higher financial cost. 

The design engineer must select the appropriate packing that provides the most economical balance between capacity and efficiency.
